of the standard, classical Arabic used as the lingua franca
of some two dozen countries in the world. Comprehension of written
and spoken Arabic will be emphasized, as will pronunciation
and simple conversation. Popular media and literary selections
will be used to offer currency, and study of the customs and
cultures of the Arab peoples will enhance student’s global

in the laboratory. BLDG C300 INTRODUCTION TO INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE 3 credit hrs Introduction to the International Building Code as it pertains to worldwide, national, state and local uses. Correct usage and familiarity to the code is the prime learning factor. BLDG C301 - RESIDENTIAL/CONSTRUCTION BLUEPRINT READING 3 credit hrs Analysis of blueprints as they apply to residential/commercial construction; architectural graphic representations; basic drafting principles. BLDG C303 - FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY 3 credit hrs Fire and life safety requirements as regulated by the International Building Code. Important aspects of this course are regulation of building areas, heights, location on property fire resistance, exits, and fire suppression systems. BLDG C305 - STEEL AND WOOD FRAME INSPECTION 3 credit hrs Class will concentrate on the International Building Code chapters concerning wood and steel framing, roofing and reroofing, drywall, stucco, plaster, plastics, soil classification and foundation investigation. BLDG C311 - INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTIAL CODE 3 credit hrs Comprehensive study of International Residential
Code for one and two-family dwellings. Topics include all residence
code requirements for building a home according to IRC 200,
including international building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical,
and fire codes. BLDG C312 - CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATING 3 credit hrs Fundamentals of Construction Estimating
takes a comprehensive approach to estimating, offering readers
a well-rounded, up-to-date perspective on the estimating process.
It is designed for entry level courses and focuses on the process
of utilizing the latest technology to compile cost estimates
for general contractors. BUS C100 INTRODUCTION/THE NEW ECONOMY 3 credit hrs Lively, comprehensive survey of modern business, including the far-reaching effects of the internet and worldwide web. Student projects combine classic concepts with modern techniques in marketing, finance, and management to develop new business models for both e-Commerce and "brick and mortar" companies. No prior experience with the internet is required. BUS C110 – LEGAL ENVIRONMENT OF BUSINESS 3 credit hrs Introduction to basic business law, basic principles of American law, sources of law, the courts and the court system(s). Specific coverage of the law of contracts, torts, administrative agencies, as well as Constitutional law as it pertains to business. BUS C120 PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING 3 credit hrs Offering guidance in home finding, car buying, investing, retirement planning, and other vitals of personal money management including household budgets; job/career selection; health care and other insurance; finding and using credit; taxes/mutual funds and investments; consumer fraud. BUS C150 - MARKETING IN THE NEW ECONOMY 3 credit hrs Practical, fast-paced introduction to contemporary marketing principles as applied in an increasingly internet-driven marketplace. Students analyze market characteristics, evaluate product and service strategies, build marketing plans, study what works and what does not. Topics include: pricing, promotion and distribution; Web-based storefronts and other e-Commerce channels; product introduction, branding and packaging. Emphasis on retailing and business operation analysis and management control techniques. Students construct an actual business plan, including a loan package. focuses on business cycles, output and income measurements,
the equilibrium level of national income, money creation, the
banking system and public debt. Also examines monetary and fiscal

economic analysis. Studies include price theory, supply and
demand, cost and revenue concepts, competition, production and
factors marked. Analyzes problems affecting industrial organization,
environment, public choice and income distribution. ENGL C099 - FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPOSITION 3 credit hrs Training and practice in the basics of
composition, grammar, and mechanics to enable the student to
express ideas clearly in essay form. ENGL C100 - FRESHMAN COMPOSITION 3 credit hrs Essay development with emphasis on the
thesis, topic sentences, paragraph structure, argumentation,
critical analysis and logic. Includes a research paper. ENGL C102 – CRITICAL REASONING, READING AND WRITING 3 credit hrs Developing critical thinking, reading
and writing skills beyond the level achieved in English 100.
Students apply these skills in writing expository argumentative
essays. ENGL C143 (Formerly ENG177) - CHILDREN’S LITERATURE 3 credit hrs A survey of classic and contemporary children’s literature. The course will provide an overview of the literary content and social values found in selected works of children’s literature. ENGL C145 - AMERICAN LITERATURE: THE SHORT STORY 3 credit hrs Designed for the General Education student,
this course is an introduction to the American short story,
emphasizing major American writers from the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries and from various cultures in modern/contemporary America.
Included is a view of each historical period and mindset and
the study of character, plot, theme, point of view, setting,
tone, style, and other literary devices as they function within
the context of the particular story.
