Program for Afloat College Education (PACE) The Program for Afloat College Education is pioneering a delivery system of education to sailors aboard ships all over the world. Courses are delivered by an electronic independent study option which delivers courses by computer interactive video providing quality college courses. PACE allows command flexibility in choosing the best combination of courses for sailors aboard ships and submarines and at selected shore sites. Electronic independent study allows sailors to take courses according to their schedule and study independently when it fits their off watch time.
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Servicemembers Opportunity College is a consortium of over 1,200 colleges that takes into account the mobile lifestyle of military students. Through written agreements, SOC minimizes the hassles of transferring credits and meeting residency requirements. SOC works hand-in-hand with the Tuition Assistance Program and DANTES to maximize a sailor's or soldier's ability to complete a degree. Educational advisors help the Service member explore non-traditional options (such as independent study and gaining credit for military experience and training) through Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) programs.
