Important Changes to your Spouse Program
For the Fall 2007 session, Coastline took the lead over many colleges by answering the call of the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide the same high-quality academic opportunities enjoyed by the spouse’s uniformed counterpart. Your Coastline program is now one of the largest military Spouse programs in the nation. Since Fall of 2007, however, our programs and processes have become more refined and, we believe, better suited to provide educational services to your dynamic, on-the-go population. Also, since this time, programs such as MyCAA have been introduced to the spouse community to provide financial reimbursement and assistance. This has tremendously reduced the out-of-pocket cost to spouses attending our program.
The three most important changes to the program beginning in the Fall session are:
- Per unit price will increase from $69 per unit to $79.
An extraordinarily low discounted price compared to other colleges.
- $50 Textbook Program
To offset the high and ever increasing cost of textbooks we implemented the $50 textbook program for our military students. When we offered free textbooks to spouses with the inception of the Spouse Program in Fall 2007 it recognized that the military family could not shoulder the burden of multiple high cost textbooks and because our Spouse Program was established prior to the availability of other funding sources like MyCAA. In Fall 2009, however, we implemented the $50 textbook program, thereby reducing the total cost of textbooks to the entire military family. This program will now be extended to all students enrolled in our military program. Although this difficult decision means there will be no more free textbooks beginning with the Fall session, it is a necessary step to making the programs we offer equitable to all branches and their military families. Please see our page which describes details regarding the $50 Textbook Program.
- Petition to Overload
To control costs in the old program we were obligated to limit spouses to a maximum of seven credit/semester hours per session. To make our policies consistent with what we offer to the military student, we are lifting this requirement beginning with the Fall session. Now spouses who wish to Petition to Overload may do so and take more courses per session. We hope this may help spouses obtain their degrees faster.
Essentially, we’re trying to provide the suite of high-quality services and opportunities the regular military student receives while maintaining the deep discounts spouses receive. The Summer session will be the last session for you to take courses for $69 per unit and with free textbooks, so be sure and sign up for the maximum two classes to reap these benefits. Beginning Fall session the Spouse program will enjoy all the same benefits of our regular military program while maintaining its greatly discounted tuition rates. |
