Dear Military Student,

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you to the exciting and innovative PocketEd Program at Coastline Community College. Because we are truly dedicated to the concept of “Anytime, Anywhere Education,” you will be issued your own PocketPC device when you register for a course in the PocketEd Program. We hope that the Pocket PC format will make it easier for you to pursue your educational goals while you proudly serve.

You are considering involvement in a very exciting and innovative, one-of-a-kind program. This PocketEd Program definitely requires a certain type of student-- one who is very self-directed and self-motivated. We view it as a means to accommodate students in extraordinarily difficult environments; however, students who may encounter difficulties staying on task and motivated with their studies should first explore our regular internet offerings here. Three very important aspects and requirements of the PocketEd program are:

  1. To enroll in a PocketEd course, students must have already successfully completed at least one college level course, or the appropriate waiver must be signed and submitted for registration.
  2. All PocketEd Program forms (student obligation, proctor agreement, and waiver if needed), must be received no later than the 1st day of the month before you wish to start your program. Failure to submit paperwork on time may result in enrollment not being approved.
  3. Students are only required to enroll in one course at a time, and are expected to complete the course within 12 weeks of the start date. Failure to complete the course within the allotted time may result in the student being financially obligated to the government for their TA funds Refer to Student Policies and Obligations for more details about the program requirements.

The PocketEd Program is an excellent learning solution for the deployed student who may not have internet access; however, because of the extremely self-contained, self-directed and self-motivated nature of the coursework, students are highly encouraged to first explore the more flexible distance learning opportunities provided through regular internet course work http://military.coastline.edu/common/courses_army.htm. Internet courses offer a higher level of guidance and support throughout the session.

Again, thank you for your participation, and we hope that this PocketEd program will prove to be an indispensable and valuable part of your overall educational pursuits.

Sincerely,
Ed McKenney
Dean of Military Education Programs
